Q2 Partnership: Rebuilding Together
We are super excited to announce our new partnership with Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, a nonprofit applauded nationwide for providing free home repairs for income-eligible homeowners and tenants in select neighborhoods of Philadelphia, with a focus on health, safety and energy efficiency. Starting in April 1 and lasting until June 30, the proceeds of any items you donate in store will assist in their work to guarantee safe and energy efficient housing to those who need it most.
Founded in 1988 by current board member Robert Bellinger, Rebuilding Together Philadelphia recognizes housing as a human right and has repaired over 2,400 homes in Philadelphia. Philadelphia is full of historic homes, which require frequent maintenance to ensure its stability. However, individuals experiencing financial insecurity are more likely to put off these necessary repairs because it can be so expensive.
This is precisely why the organization’s mission to repair, rebuild and revitalize is so vital to our Germantown community. Three times a year, over just two days, roughly 100-250 volunteers gather to participate in what they call a Block Build event. Their main objective is to repair between 10-15 clustered homes in a specific neighborhood. They assess what each house needs in order to be safe, energy efficient, and accessible—then they get to work! From plumbing and electrical systems to the roof and floors, they cover it all. Factors that may provoke asthma or other breathing conditions are even considered, ensuring that all repairs done by Rebuilding Together Philadelphia effectively reduce triggers for both children and adults.
Their mission is not just about the physical structures, either: the efforts of these volunteers help directly address the institutional racism that has long contributed to housing inequalities for so many marginalized Americans. It’s 2026 and unfortunately, not everyone has the same opportunities or resources to maintain a home. Rebuilding Together Philadelphia has made it possible for its community members to stay healthy and safe in their generational homes.
